Show Of Hands If You Know What Gravy Bread Is
Being from Chicago, Italian Beef Sandwiches are a staple in our diet. I have so many favorites and I like each one for different reasons. Everything makes a difference in the making of a good beef. The seasoning, the quality of the meat, the spice, the heat and the bread. The main reason why I love Italian Beef’s are because of the gravy soaked bread. There are even some beef stands in Chicago where you can JUST get a gravy bread. They take the Italian bread and soak it in the beef au jus and it is a delicious soggy delight.
On that note, I recently met someone who had never heard of Italian Beef, Beefs Stands OR Gravy Bread and I was shocked. I didn’t know that this could only be a Chicago thing? Is it? I am not sure. Either way it had me thinking that I needed to create a recipe that anyone could make at home. I also wanted it to be a crock pot meal because I love to use my crock pot in the summer. It is a great alternative to grilling and I love not heating up the house in the Summer with my stove and oven. I did some research on Pinterest (are you following me on Pinterest yet?) and I saw a variety of ways to make a good crock pot Italian Beef. I decided to take a variety of recipes and combine them to make it my own. I also wanted to incorporate my Chateau Mini Dumplings since I am always looking for ways to create recipes using these darling dumplings. After all they are the World’s Best Dumplings.
I created this great recipe and it was delicious. It was super easy and would be a good one for a weeknight meal. The only critique I had for myself is that it was slightly too spicy. I used a whole jar of peppers and their juice, next time I will use half the jar only.
The ingredients are as follows:
- 2-3 lb Chuck Roast, Cut into large chunks.
- 2 Packets of Italian Dressing Seasoning Mix
- 1 Medium Sized Jar of Pepperocini
- 1 Bag of Chateau Mini Potato Dumplings
- 1 Green Pepper Cut into Chunks or Strips
- 1 Medium Yellow Onion, sliced into strips
After you prep all the ingredients all you need to do is dump everything but the dumplings into your crock pot. I turned my crock on low and let it cook for 6 hours.
Pro Tip : Everytime you open the lid on your crock pot it adds thirty minutes cooking time. Note that when following a recipe.
At the 6 hour mark I opened up the lid and checked to make sure the meat was tender and easily separated with a fork. I then added the mini dumplings to the crock pot, covered it and let it cook for another 30 minutes.
This recipe was PERFECTION. It would be great for a bbq, a potluck, a weeknight ot weekend dinner or for any party really.
I love using these dumplings in any recipe I can. I love the taste and texture of them. As they cooked in the beef au jus they took on the taste of a gravy bread. They really made this recipe perfect. You can find out where to purchase these dumplings at their website at ChateauFoods.Com , they even sell them online and can be shipped anywhere in the 48 states.
**While this post was sponsored by Chateau Foods, all opinions are my own. My opinion is that I love Chateau Mini Dumplings!
