Tasty Sauces Perfect for Chicken

February is finally over and while it is the shortest month of the year, it feels so very long.

Now that it’s March, spring is just around the corner. For me and my family, March is very busy.

We celebrate lots of holidays like Saint Patrick’s Day, Saint Joseph’s Day at the start of the Lenten Season, and of course we all know that it’s college basketball big tournament season!

All of these events mean lots of parties and lots of snacking! For me, March is one of the busiest times of year for cooking many different types of meals.

It’s almost as many as Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Our family has very specific recipes we make for Saint Patrick’s Day and Saint Joseph’s Day and many meatless options for Lent. It’s a lot of meal planning, shopping, prep, and cooking for me and it can be exhausting. I am locked into my recipes for the holidays but I needed to find some easy game day eats.

While I am not a fan of sports, Mr. Tipsy is a sports fanatic. He likes to watch all the college basketball games and his favorite thing to do while watching with his friends is to snack. This usually means even more cooking for me. Frankly, I get exhausted just thinking about it all.

Recently I was doing my weekly grocery shopping at my local Jewel-Osco. As I was walking by the deli I saw this sign and had a light bulb moment!

Jewel Fried Chicken

Jewel has the BEST chicken: fried, rotisserie, wings, you name it!

So I thought to myself, why don’t I get the guys a bunch of wings and make my own dipping sauces to go with?!  I also noticed that their sign mentioned a deal on Coca-Cola products which is perfect since Mr. Tipsy and his friends love to drink pop.

What goes better with some great chicken than an icy cold Coca-Cola? I grabbed a bunch of the wings and also grabbed an Open Nature Rotisserie Chicken, in case any of the guys were watching what they eat, then headed over to the soda aisle.

I decided to grab the guys some Coca-Cola and Diet Coke. I figured there would be something for everyone, but I was glad I checked out the soda aisle to see what other Coca-Cola products were available.

Coca Cola Products

I knew I had the ingredients for the sauces I planned on making at home, so I took my wings, rotisserie chicken, and Coca-Cola to the register and headed home.

Jewel Chicken and Coca Cola

Now all I had to do to put my personal touch on this game day grub, which was make three dipping sauces to go with the Jewel-Osco Chicken.

Sriracha Mayo

Buffalo Wing Sauce
Sriracha Mayo

The first sauce was a Sriracha Mayo. I simply took my favorite prepared mayo and added bottled sriracha to taste. I used about 1 C of mayo and 1 Tablespoon of Sriracha. I mixed them together and it was delicious.

Honey Mustard

The second sauce I made was a simple honey mustard. I used my favorite yellow mustard plus some honey. It was about 1 Cup of Mustard and 2 tablespoons of Honey. This made a tangy sweet sauce that went perfectly with the chicken.

Spicy Sweet BBQ Sauce

The third sauce I wanted to make was a spicy sweet bbq sauce. I thought that it would be perfect for the rotisserie chicken or the chicken wings.

I simply took my favorite plain bbq sauce and added a few ingredients. I used about 1 Cup of BBQ, 1 T of Worcestershire, 1 T of Honey, Garlic Powder and Chili Powder to taste.

Give it a good stir and its perfect! The longer it sits the better it gets.

Chicken Wings

It was so hard not to snack on the wings and rotisserie chicken while I made the sauces.

But I have to confess: I did enjoy an icy cold Coca-Cola while I prepared the food.

This turned out to be the perfect solution for me if we have company for any of the college basketball games. I always feel like I have a full house this time of year so it’s great to know I have this snack option in my back pocket if needed.

I’ve always loved Jewel-Osco fried chicken and the wings did not disappoint.

If you want to make your own BBQ Chicken Wings, I’ve got a great recipe for you!

With so much extra time on my hands I may even watch some of the games…..

Great idea to put your own spin on a quick and easy appetizer. Love the sauce idea, and love Jewel’s honey boneless wings!
