Caramel Apple Slices
Pieces of Fall

Ités almost apple season and if youére anything like us, youére going to have a plethora of apples on hand after that family outing to the orchard. These Caramel Apple Slices can turn that plethora into an at-home state fair!
We all love caramel apples, but they arenét easy to eat. They are especially hard for the little ones to master, though ités the perfect solution for a loose tooth youére trying to prepare for the Tooth Fairy.
I made these Caramel Apple Slices as an after-school snack for a family I used to look after and it was hard to say who loved them more, me or the kiddos.
This is a pretty simple recipe. I suppose you canét necessarily call it a recipe because I didnét technically MAKE anything for this snack, but ités not like I grew the sugar cane I used for sugar or wheat I used for flour, so where does that reasoning end?
OK, that got too philosophical for a moment!
Letés just call it a recipe, because it has a printable recipe card at the end of this post. You can hit the print button on that card and itéll come up on one page without ads so you can print it or screenshot it.
Thereés also a button you can use to share the recipe to Pinterest. You can follow me there as The Tipsy Housewife.
Allergy Alternatives
So this recipe calls for peanuts, but I know that quite a few kids have severe peanut allergies. If peanuts are the only issue and other nuts are fine, you could consider making your own honey roasted nuts as an alternative.

You could even try salted nuts if youére the kind of person who likes a salted caramel twist. Assuming youére looking to avoid nuts entirely, you could maybe consider something like sunflower seeds or crisped rice.
That should add some of the right kind of texture, though it may not taste as good. Of course it will taste much better than a severe allergic reaction!
A Sliced Apple a Day
You may never have cut apples the way you need to for this recipe, so be sure to check out the picture beforehand. Youéll want to slice them vertically, almost like you would with a loaf of bread.

If youére used to just using one of those metal apple cutters to break down an apple immediately, this may be around 5% more work.
You know what I mean, right? They look kind of like metal spider webs?
Anyway, you wonét be using that this time, though you can also mix caramel sauce and the peanuts in a bowl to dip apple pieces you cut the usual way with your little metal spider web guy.
You DO know what I mean, yeah?
Caramel (or CaraMEL) Dipping Sauce
I was able to find caramel dipping sauce in the produce section of my grocery store. You might also be able to find it in the section with toppings for ice cream.
If youére very brave, you could also make your own caramel sauce. Just kidding, you donét have to be that brave.
I have a recipe for making caramel sauce as part of my cracker cookie recipe, but I can give you a brief recap here.

First youéll want to melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil while whisking constantly for 3 minutes.
You want to keep it at a low boil and also remember ités going to be very hot.
The Printable Recipe
That is all there is to the caramel apple slices.
