• A Waitress Named Diane ….

    September 3, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Travel Wisconsin ran a commercial a few years back about the Wisconsin Supper Club and The Old Fashioned Cocktail. In the commercial it teaches that an Old Fashioned is served in a ten ounce glass, with a maraschino cherry, and an orange slice but that a REAL Old Fashioned must be served in a room with a brick fireplace, an a deer head mounted on a wall, by a waitress named Diane.  (See the commercial here The Wisconsin Supper Club) As a lover of the Wisconsin Supper Club scene and pretty much all things Wisconsin, this commercial gives me all…

  • The Lost Recipes of The 1950’s Housewives ~Chopped Steak~

    August 25, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Someone I know always orders the chopped steak at restaurants because he is afraid it will be taken off the menu and go extinct if people don’t order it.  I’m not exactly sure where the concern comes from, but clearly the dish evokes a memory for that person that he doesn’t want to see die. I think we all have certain foods that are connected to memories of a good time or a specific person and with the lapse in teaching cooking skills to recent generations, a lot of these recipes have literally and figuratively died with their keepers. Thinking…

  • Why Foodies Need To Visit The Northwoods

    August 17, 2017thetipsyhousewife

My parents started coming to the Western U.P. Of Michigan & The Northwoods of Wisconsin twenty years ago when they started dating. Specifically they came to Watersmeet, Michigan which sits immediately over the border of Land O Lakes, Wisconsin. They would camp in the Ottawa National Forest and eventually bought land and built their dream lake house seven years ago.
