Maple Meets Mexico

Maple Cinnamon Margarita

Maple Cinnamon Margaritas have all the traditional margarita flavors plus the vanilla notes of REAL maple syrup and the warm spice of cinnamon that I know you’ll love. These margaritas will have everyone guessing the secret ingredient that makes them so good!

We live part time in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula about eight miles over the northernmost Wisconsin border. I write the bi-weekly food column for the local paper and every year I am asked to do a cooking demo and judge the maple syrup contest at the Phelps, Wisconsin Maple Syrup Fest.

This past weekend I made these Maple Cinnamon Margaritas a part of my cooking demo and they were a huge hit! Therefore I wanted to get the recipe up here on The Tipsy Housewife as quickly as possible.

The flavors of this margarita are so rich, decadent, and delicious. This may be my new favorite way to make a margarita.

Recipe Card Below

There is a full, printable recipe card at the end of this post. You can print the card or save it to your Pinterest page.

We also recently added a convenient, hands-free mode on the card for those who use their device when making a recipe. On the recipe card, I promised to share some pictures and information about the products I used.

If you are a visual learner, the next few paragraphs will be very helpful to you.

Cinnamon Makes Tequila Sing

One of my favorite spices to add to tequila drinks is cinnamon. The warm, slightly sweet and spicy notes are the perfect pairing with tequila.

Some tequilas have notes of vanilla and caramel which makes cinnamon the perfect pairing. Cinnamon is also a great way to make a tequila drink for autumn.

You will be shocked how good it is in this margarita.

When I make the simple syrup, I leave the cinnamon sticks in the syrup as I store it in the fridge for future use, as the flavor of cinnamon will get stronger. If you do not like a very strong flavor of cinnamon, you can remove the sticks before storing the simple syrup for future drinks.

Make It Maple

While most cocktail enthusiasts would say that maple is a perfect pairing for a drink made with the darker spirits, I personally love the flavor and smoothness it adds to this tequila based drink. To ME, tequila can be sort of sharp and this maple and brown sugar simple syrup takes the edge off of the sharpness of the the tequila.

It creates a very smooth and drinkable margarita that is not as sour tasting to some.

What To Put On Your Margarita Rim

Personally, I like to use lime and a Mexican seasoning called Tajin to rim these margaritas rather than the salt you might be used to.

Tajin is a spicy seasoning that you should be able to find at most supermarkets. It has a really bright flavor and the spicy kick ads a great compliment to the semi-sweet notes of the drink.

Of course, if you want to use salt, no one ever went wrong with sweet and salty.

The Tequila Can’t Be Cheap

Now I am never going to be one to tell you that you have to buy the most expensive product there is. I like to always include affordable and accessible ingredients.

In this instance, however, I would recommend that you do use a better tequila. There are many on the market that are not that expensive.

The tequila should always be a clear tequila. Never, ever, ever use a yellow or gold tequila.

I like to use the Jose Cuervo Silver Tequila. I think it is a good price point and it has a very clean taste and finish.

The Perfect Pairing

Trust me when I tell you this: when you make these margaritas you are going to want to serve them with my Crispy Chicken Tacos. I love these tacos.

The chicken is so juicy and I love the crisp of the shells. You fry these tacos in some oil and they just make the perfect margarita meal.
