No Meat But Great to Eat

The air fryer was the last appliance I ever wanted to buy and have cluttering up my counter and now it is the appliance I use almost every day. I made these Air Fryer Fried Avocado Tacos as an experiment and they will now be a regular menu staple in my house.

They’re so easy to make and delicious to eat. Using a box of oven fry chicken coating and an Asian bagged salad kit, this a meal that is ready in less than thirty minutes.

These Air Fryer Fried Avocado Tacos are great for an easy dinner or a quick lunch.

Oven Fry Or Chicken Coating Mix

I used this chicken coating mix from Aldi. This is Aldi’s knock off brand for Oven Fry.

Oven Fry is a crispy coating that stays crunchy in the oven even when not frying in oil.

I’m happy to report the Aldi version worked just as well.

I chose to use this over regular bread crumbs or panko because avocados are technically a fat and therefore get oily when heated and would make the bread crumbs or panko soggy. This allowed the avocado to stay firm, get crispy in the air fryer, and reduced the cooking time so the avocado wasn’t soft and soggy when it came out.

Avocado on Avocado

I used this spray avocado oil from Aldi to spray the air fryer and the avocados after I breaded them. This brand seemed healthier and has a high smoke point which means you can cook it at a high heat and it doesn’t get acrid and toxic like some oils at high temps.

Peeling The Avocado

I used a couple tricks to get the avocado halves from the skin without too much damage. If you accidentally remove a chunk from the half, you can press it back in and smooth it out thanks to the texture of the avocado.

To try to keep the avocado intact:

  • Roll the avocado before cutting it, gently but also firmly on your cutting board.
  • Use a small paring knife to slide around the circumference of the avocado between the flesh and the skin.
  • Use a small spoon to pop the avocado half out of the skin.

Breading The Avocado

The texture of the avocado allows the oven fry crumbs to press really easily into the avocado. Make sure you spray the breaded avocado generously with the oil so that it gets nice and crispy.

Cook Time

Every air fryer cooks differently so make sure you keep an eye on your avocados the first time you fry them in yours. I preheated my air fryer at 400 degrees for ten minutes then fried my avocados for ten minutes.

They came out perfectly.

Experiment with putting it on top of your recipes and you might find a delicious new creation.

These easy air fryer fried avocados can be made in about twenty minutes. Using a Asian bagged salad kit makes this healthier dinner so easy that it will be on your regular rotation.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 Ripe Avocados, pick ones with dark brown skin
  • 1 Asian variety bagged salad kit
  • 8 to 10 Tortillas, I used Corn
  • Asian Restaurant Style Salad Dressing (I got mine at Aldi)
  • Spicy Red Pepper Garlic Sauce (optional)
  • 1 Box of Oven Fry Chicken Coating (you can use any variety)
  • Spray Oil ( I used Avocado Oil in the can from Aldi)

Instructions

  1. Roll your avocados around on the cutting board on all sides, gently but slightly pressing the avocado into the board to help press the avocado flesh away from the skin.
  2. Cut your avocados in half and remove the pit, then using a small paring knife, slide the knife around the entire circumference of the avocado between the avocado and the skin.
  3. I use a small spoon to slide under the avocado in the skin to loosen it from the bottom and sides so that I can remove the whole half of the avocado in one piece. Repeat for all avocados until you have 8 halves. If a chunk fo the avocado come off the half you can place it back on the whole piece and gently reattach and smooth it so its intact.
  4. Add the oven fry breadcrumbs to a plate.
  5. Place the avocado halves into the crumb and press into the avocado, top sides and bottom, until the avocado half is covered in the crumb.
  6. Preheat your air fryer at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
  7. Spray your air fryer basket with avocado oil, then add the avocados, cut side down, spray the avocados generously with the avocado oil.
  8. Air fry for 10 minutes at 400 degrees or until the avocados are golden brown. Every air fryer cooks differently so check often.
  9. Add your bag salad to a bowl and toss with the dressing and the crispy bits that come with like the fried won tons, almonds and sesame seeds.
  10. Warm your tortillas in a skillet with a little oil.
  11. Slice your avocados into slices, add your Asian salad to the warm tortillas, then your avocado slices, then top with extra dressing and the spicy red pepper garlic sauce.
