Hye Roller Sandwiches, Also Known As Pinwheels Hye Roller Sandwiches, also known as pinwheels, are the perfect summer recipe. When I was in college I worked at a local grocery store chain in Chicago called Jewel-Osco. I think elsewhere in the country it is called Albertson’s. The department I worked in was the Chef’s Kitchen which was a deli/bakery combination since our store was one of the smaller ones. I was only 18 years old and was the youngest person to ever work in the department. My co-workers were all mostly in their 50’s and some, even older. As the…

  • Pickle Patty Melts

    February 6, 2022thetipsyhousewife

The Craving I was given some really nice cheeses from a local Wisconsin farmer and one was a delicious looking cheddar. I knew I wanted to make a Patty Melt with this fabulous cheese. I started making my patty melts with pickles years ago when I saw this trick in a cookbook. It was so good, I haven’t turned back yet. You can skip to the full, printable recipe by scrolling down to the bottom. Tips & Tricks I just have a few things I do differently, otherwise my recipe is pretty standard. One thing I do is add soy…

  • Salami and Cheddar Beach Snacks

    July 16, 2021thetipsyhousewife

Salami and Cheddar Beach Snacks Inspiration For years I taught pre school for the Chicago Park District. There was a Grandmother who used to make these for every classroom party. They were so simple, so delicious, didn’t cost a lot of money to make and people went crazy for them. I was meeting a bunch of friends at the beach and I needed to bring a snack and I remembered these mini sandwiches that Grandma made. I whipped up a batch and they turned out to be the BEST thing to eat at the beach, or while swimming. These Salami…

  • The Ultimate Picnic Sandwich

    July 13, 2021thetipsyhousewife

Meet The Ultimate Picnic Sandwich I watched a cooking show on the food network with my mother where they were making a sandwich similar to this. I love a salty sweet combination. The Ultimate Picnic Sandwich has all the components I love. Great crunch, salty, thinly sliced prosciutto, sweet cantaloupe and peppery arugula. The Ultimate Picnic Sandwich is a great recipe for Summer because it is light, yet filling. It is also very easy to make. There is a full, printable recipe for this sandwich at the end of this post. Few, But Specific Ingredients This recipe requires few ingredients,…

I want to start by saying that this hardly qualifies as a “recipe”. Asian Grilled Chicken Sandwich

    July 5, 2019thetipsyhousewife

I have been resurrecting a lot of classic recipes that I find in my Grandma’s cookbooks and giving them a modern day makeover. I came up with this recipe for an Asian Grilled Chicken Sandwich using a classic kitchen hack where you marinate your chicken breasts in Zesty Italian Salad Dressing. This Asian Grilled Chicken Sandwich reminds me of a play on a Vietnamese Bahn Mi Sandwich. A Bahn Mi Sandwich is a typical Vietnamese Sandwich on a French Baguette and stuffed with marinated meats, cucumbers, herbs and pickled veggies.  Last Sunday we were having Mister Tipsy’s Dad over for…

    Submarine Sandwich

    June 27, 2019thetipsyhousewife

When it comes to cooking, I have some strengths. One of my greatest strengths is my ability to make a pretty great Submarine Sandwich. It is one of the things that Mister Tipsy requests the most. Every year he goes on a guys trip to Florida and he specifically requests that I make this Submarine Sandwich for him and his friends to take on the plane.  The ingredients for this sub are simple, but they are very specific. If I substitute any of the ingredients from what I normally use, it just doesn’t taste the same. I am not…
