A small bottle of Perfect Pinch Salad Supreme Seasoning held over the cucumber salad

The Perfect Pinch

I have been a fan of Salad Supreme by McCormick since my Aunt Nita started making her Linguine Salad in the 1980s. When I share recipes that use it, I get a lot of comments that people cannot find the seasoning.

I find it very easily at Walmart and many other Midwestern grocery stores. I also see this on Amazon quite often.

This seasoning is also GREAT on cottage cheese.

A package of organic celery powder

Make Celery Powder A Part Of Your Pantry

Celery powder may be an ingredient many of you have never heard of before. it adds great depth of flavor.

The Celery Powder I use is available on my Amazon Affiliate Shop.

*I do make a small commission from Amazon when you use this link. It costs you nothing more.*

The powder is $11.99. It lasts forever in the pantry.

Other Uses For Celery Powder

Add celery powder to your salad dressings, soups, and tuna salad. I also add this to smoothies from time to time.

Try adding it to my delicious Tuna Salad Recipes!

A container of Spice Supreme Celery Seed

Celery Seed For Elevated Flavor

I personally LOVE using celery seed in a lot of recipes. I like the nutty flavor it adds to my recipes.

To me, it also just makes everything taste really fresh and delicious. You can add celery seed to all pasta salads and I also like to add it to soups as well.

A spoon of sugar held over a glass bowl with sliced cucumbers and onion

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Sugar

Sugar and cucumbers is the perfect combination. The sugar helps tame the sharpness of the vinegar.

It also helps meld the flavors of the acid in the onions and the sweet juice that comes from the cucumbers.

The tablespoon is for the whole bowl. It is not much sugar per serving!

You can adjust the amount if you have issue with it. You are also welcome to use sugar substitutes that you see fit.

Simple Cucumber Salad

Simple Cucumber Salad is a refreshing delight of a fresh cucumber salad, elevated with a unique blend of flavors. Crisp, thinly sliced cucumbers are the star of this dish, offering a cool and crunchy base that's both hydrating and satisfying. To enhance the natural sweetness of the cucumbers, a delicate balance of sugar and white vinegar is meticulously mixed in, creating a sweet and tangy dressing that coats each slice. Next, finely chopped chives are sprinkled throughout, adding a subtle oniony bite and a pop of vibrant green color, elevating both the flavor and presentation of the salad. The secret ingredient: Salad Supreme. This special seasoning blend combines savory herbs, spices, and sesame seeds, imparting a burst of flavor and a satisfying crunch with every bite. With every bite you’re transported to a realm of culinary bliss, where freshness reigns supreme.

Ingredients

  • 2 large seedless cucumbers
  • 1 large white onion
  • 3/4 cup of white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of white sugar
  • Large bunch of fresh chives (approximately 20 chives)
  • 1 teaspoon of McCormick Perfect Pinch Salad Supreme Seasoning (see post for more info) *optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon of celery seed
  • 1 teaspoon of celery powder (see post for info) *optional

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel your cucumbers. I like to leave a little bit of the skin on to add some color to the salad. I slice the cucumbers very thin. Another way I get them very thin is by using my veggie peel and peel the ends into very thin slices. As I near the end of the cucumber, I use a fork stuck into the end of the cucumber to hold it secure and save my fingers from being peeled.
  2. Set the slice cucumbers aside in their own bowl. Salt them with the garlic salt and add the black pepper and toss them around. Set them aside so they start marinating in their own juices.
  3. Slice your onions very thin and set aside in a separate bowl.
  4. In a sauce pan add your vinegar and white sugar and turn on heat to low, whisk this as it warms up to dissolve the sugar into the vinegar. Don't let this come to a boil.
  5. Turn off the heat and add in the celery seed, celery powder and then let this sit and cool.
  6. When the mixture is cooled, pour over the onions and let sit for at least 30 minutes. *If you like you can do steps 4 and 5 and then let the onions sit overnight in the fridge. Just wait to slice your cucumbers until the day you assemble this.
  7. After the onions have marinated and your cucumbers have sat long enough to make their own juice, toss the onions and the cucumbers together.
  8. Thinly slice your chives and add these to the bowl. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
  9. I let this chill in the fridge for a bit before serving but it can be served immediately.
  10. I sprinkle the salad supreme on the top right before serving.
