The Perfect Glaze For Any Protein

Guiness Dipping Sauce

Guinness Dipping Sauce is made from the World Famous Guinness Beer, and its malty, rich, dark flavor pairs perfectly with the other ingredients like soy sauce, brown sugar and peanut butter. This would be a perfect glaze on your corned beef brisket or as a sauce for your burgers, chicken, or ribs!

As you may or may not know, I am a Disney Food enthusiast and I frequent Walt Disney World almost monthly. There is a restaurant in Disney Springs called Raglan Road that serves a Guinness Dipping Sauce for their bread service.

I have never had this sauce myself, but saw it on a Disney YouTube channel I follow and had to give it a whirl. I am not sure it is a copycat of Raglan Road, but I do know that it is delicious.

A bottle of Guinness Extra Stout

Guinness Beer

Truth be told, I have never been a fan of drinking Guinness beer as a refreshment. To me, it always tasted too savory.

That is why when I saw the YouTube video with the Guinness Sauce, I thought, yes I can see this being tasty. Guinness has a thick, rich texture and a malted barley flavor that to me, is slightly coffee-like and also a little like soy sauce.

These flavors are what makes it perfect for as a sauce for meats. It finishes off savory and sweet after it simmers with the other ingredients.

The color makes a beautiful dark glaze that dresses up your proteins.

Is There Alcohol In Guinness Sauce?

The beer itself DOES have alcohol in it. Because this sauce cooks for over an hour, the actual alcoholic component cooks off and there is nothing left in the sauce to make anyone feel any effects of alcohol.

If you are not able to have alcohol in your cooking, Guinness DOES make a zero proof (no alcohol) version of their beer. I have yet to think of any other substitutes for the beer for this sauce, but when I do I will update the recipe.

A measuring cup of brown sugar over the Guinness Sauce.

SO Much Sugar

Let’s address the elephant in the room…. there IS a lot of brown sugar in this recipe. I know people freak out about this, but very much like my Chopped Blue Cheese Salad Dressing, you are actually using VERY LITTLE of the dressing/sauce when you serve it, so keep that in mind.

The measurement of the 1.5 cups of sugar is for the ENTIRE pan of sauce, whereas you are using about a tablespoon of the sauce on your own personal serving.

Bitter Beer

The beer itself is VERY bitter, therefore you need this amount of sugar to temper the bitterness. If you are really against using this must sugar, give it a try with less sugar or a sugar alternative and let me know how it comes out.

The brown sugar is also what thickens this sauce into a glaze and adds that sweet molasses-like flavor.

A spoon of peanut butter over sizzling onions.

Peanut Butter Surprise

You may be surprised by the peanut butter in this sauce. When you think about it, think of how good Asian peanut-style noodles taste.

That is similar to the flavor profile here. IF you have someone who has a peanut allergy, you can omit this ingredient and the sauce will still taste good.

If you do not have a peanut allergy, I strongly encourage you to use this ingredient for optimal flavor.

Make Your Meat

I have quite a few recipes that this sauce would be great on. I will link a few below along with a recipe for Brussels Sprouts that this glaze will be perfect for.

Guinness Dipping Sauce Recipe

Guiness Dipping Sauce

Guinness Dipping Sauce is perfect for beef, pork, chicken, your best brisket recipe, and even burgers. Versatile and delicious!

Ingredients

  • 2 eleven ounce bottles of Guinness beer (about 3 cups)
  • 1.5 cups of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 heaping tablespoon of peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup of finely minced onion (approximately 1/2 of a medium yellow onion)
  • Sprinkle of garlic salt
  • Sprinkle of black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of butter

Instructions

  1. Add your butter to a skillet, medium heat, and melt the butter and add the onions.
  2. Cook the onions until they are soft and golden brown, season them with a sprinkle of garlic salt and black pepper, sauté for a couple of minutes more, then add the soy sauce and peanut butter. Sauté for another 5 minutes.
  3. Add the brown sugar and use your spatula to incorporate it into the onions. Then add your beer.
  4. Bring this to a simmer and the whole time you are bringing it up to a simmer, whisk to help dissolve the brown sugar. Simmer on medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes, then reduce the heat to a very low simmer.
  5. Simmer uncovered approximately one hour. Stir this often to make sure it is not burning. Some stoves or pans will cook this faster so be sure to pay attention the first time you make this. The sauce is done when it glazes or coats the back of a spoon. This sauce is best served warm.
  6. You can make this sauce ahead of time, and refrigerate. It will harden slightly when it is cold, so let it sit out on the counter to come to room temp, then reheat in a pan.
