Make In Your Ninja SLUSHi or Freezer

Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned Slushy

Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned Slushy is a frozen twist on the iconic Midwest cocktail. This is perfect for summer or Fall gatherings, backyard parties, and weekends at the lake. Made with smooth brandy, orange juice, lemon juice, cherry juice, aromatic bitters, and a splash of lemon-lime soda, this refreshing drink is the perfect recipe for the Ninja SLUSHi but just as easy to make in the freezer.

A couple of weeks ago, I hosted a block party. One of my friends was kind enough to lend me her Ninja SLUSHi machine. The very first thing I made was my Adult Hawaiian Punch. I was completely hooked. Before the party was even over, I had already ordered one from Amazon because I knew I’d be using it all summer long. Ever since then, I’ve been experimenting with all kinds of frozen cocktails, and I knew I had to try turning my favorite Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned into a slushy.

While this recipe was designed for the Ninja SLUSHi, you’ll still be able to make it just as well without one. The recipe card explains both the SLUSHi method and the way to make it in your freezer. Both versions have the same classic Wisconsin Old Fashioned flavor, so you can choose whichever method works best for you.

Crush on Slush

Regular readers know I’m very discerning when it comes to the products I buy and recommend. When I tried my first sip from the Ninja SLUSHi machine, however, I knew it would be my newest purchase. The texture was unbelievable. It wasn’t chunky or icy like a blender drink, and it wasn’t overly frozen either. It came out perfectly smooth and sippable, almost like an extra-creamy Slurpee.

Here is a link to get your own Ninja SLUSHi machine if you’d like one. While you can make this recipe without it, I do think it’s worth it if your budget allows.

Old Fashioned Appeal

I recently got back from a trip to Disney with one of my best friends where we somehow ended up ordering Old Fashioneds everywhere we went. Ever since we got home, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them. This frozen version has all the classic flavors of a Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned, but it’s cold, refreshing, and absolutely perfect for sitting on the deck, hanging out at the lake, or enjoying on a warm summer evening.

The Ninja SLUSHi

Great Drinks & Easy To Clean

One of the things I’ve been most impressed with is how easy the Ninja SLUSHi machine is to clean. I was expecting it to be one of those appliances that takes forever to take apart and wash, but it’s actually very simple. The removable parts come apart easily, rinse clean quickly, and are ready for the next batch in just a few minutes. That means I’m much more likely to pull it out on a weeknight or make several different flavors for a party without dreading the cleanup afterward.

My Favorite Entertaining Method

To make these Brandy Old Fashioned Slushies party friendly, I have a great idea!

Freeze the base overnight in a 9×13-inch pan. When guests arrive, use an ice cream scoop to portion the slush into glasses and let everyone choose their topper:

  • Sweet (Sprite or 7UP)
  • Sour (sour mix)
  • Press (half Sprite, half club soda)

Set out bowls of cherries, orange slices, olives, and even cocktail onions so everyone can build their own Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned Slushy. It’s a fun, interactive drink station that’s perfect for a lake weekend, tailgate, or supper club-themed party.

How to Make a Non-Alcoholic Wisconsin Old Fashioned Slushy

If you’d like to make a family-friendly version of this recipe, it’s incredibly easy to do. Simply replace the brandy with additional orange juice, a little extra cherry juice, and a splash of brewed black tea. You can also use a non-alcoholic whiskey alternative for a little more depth of flavor. You’ll still get the bright citrus, sweet cherry, and aromatic bitters that make a Wisconsin Old Fashioned so iconic. You will still make a refreshing frozen drink that everyone can enjoy. Garnish it with an orange slice, a cherry, and even an olive if you want the full Wisconsin supper club experience.

A Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned Slushy is everything you love about the classic supper club cocktail transformed into a frosty, refreshing frozen drink that's perfect for hot summer days and lake weekends. Made with brandy, citrus, bitters, and a splash of soda, this easy recipe delivers all the nostalgic flavors of a traditional Old Fashioned in a fun, scoopable slush.

Ingredients

Ninja SLUSHi Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups brandy (Korbel is the Wisconsin classic)
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup lemon-lime soda (7UP or Sprite)
  • 1/2 cup cherry juice (from maraschino cherries or Luxardo cherries)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons simple syrup (optional, depending on how sweet you like it)
  • 8 to 10 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 2 teaspoons orange bitters (optional but delicious)
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

Garnishes:

  • Orange slices
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Cocktail olives (for the true Wisconsin experience)

Instructions

    Ninja SLUSHi Method

    1. Mix everything together, chill it for several hours
    2. Pour it into your Ninja SLUSHi and run the spiked drink setting. If it seems like it's struggling to freeze, add another 1/2 to 1 cup of water or a little more lemon-lime soda to lower the alcohol concentration. Freezer Method

    If you like it "Sweet"

    Add:

  • An extra 1/2 cup cherry juice
  • Splash of grenadine

If you like it "Sour"

Replace the Sprite with:

  • 1 cup sour mix
  • 1/2 cup club soda

If you like it "Press"

Use:

  • 1/2 cup Sprite
  • 1/2 cup club soda

Freezer Method

2 cups brandy (Korbel is traditional)
2 cups orange juice
1 cup lemon juice
1 cup water
3/4 cup simple syrup (or more to taste)
10 dashes Angostura bitters
2 teaspoons orange bitters (optional)
1 cup cherry juice

  1. Whisk everything together in a large freezer-safe container.
  2. Freeze for 8 to 24 hours.
  3. Every 2 to 3 hours for the first several hours, scrape it with a fork to break up the ice crystals. It doesn't have to be perfect—the alcohol keeps it fairly scoopable.
  4. Once frozen, scoop it into rocks glasses.

Top each serving with:

  • Lemon-lime soda for a Sweet
  • Half lemon-lime soda and half club soda for a Press
  • Sour mix or grapefruit soda if that's your favorite style

Garnish with:

  • Orange slice
  • Cherry
  • Olive

Even Easier Bonus Method

Freeze the mixture in ice cube trays.

When you're ready for cocktails:

  • Add 1½ cups of the frozen cubes to a blender.
  • Add a splash of Sprite or club soda.
  • Blend until smooth.

This method lets you make one drink at a time instead of thawing a whole batch.
