Tacos In A Jar

I love tacos, I mean I REALLY love them.  If I had to choose one food to eat daily, for the rest of my life, it would be tacos.  I am especially a fan of the walking taco.  If you haven’t heard of it before, it is a staple at concession stands at parks all over Chicago.  The typical walking taco consists of a bag of either Doritos or Fritos filled with warm taco meat and all the taco fixings.

There is only one small problem with the walking taco and that is, IT’S HOT!  If you have the meat at a solid serving temp, the foil bag gets super hot and it is hard to hold. I thought about this problem and for my next party I decided to do “Tacos In A Jar”. Plus this was is just more Earth friendly.

The Ingredients are simple:

  • 1 lb of cooked taco meat, prepared according to package directions
  • Taco Cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Onion
  • Guacamole
  • Salsa
  • Tomatoes
  • Green Onions
  • Doritos or Fritos
  • Sour Cream
  • Avocado

I used my very favorite jars from Weck Jars. I prepared the jars by adding the chips.

Then I added the cooked and slightly cooled Taco Meat.

I sliced and diced all my topping choices and set them up buffet style for guests to choose for themselves.  If you have been following me for some time you know I love a good party buffet!

These Tacos In A Jar are great for a good Cinco De Mayo Recipe, A kids birthday party or a party for any day of the week. You can also assemble these ahead of time and take them for lunch. I prefer hot food but if you are a fan of salads, this is a great salad that transports well!

Get creative and enjoy!!!

This would be great for kids, too! Tacos in full-sized shells can be to much for them to handle.
