Pimento Cheese and Pork Rinds, The Pairing Of The Century

A spicy pork rind being dipped into pimento cheese dip.

Pimento Cheese Dip is the perfect snack pairing for crackers or pork rinds. It’s creamy and cheesy with the perfect amount of spice.

I was recently at the 2024 Epcot Food and Wine Festival and enjoyed a similar dish from one of their food stands. I knew that I HAD to try this one at home.

I found that it was very easy to recreate. The pork rinds to dip in this Pimento Cheese Dip are the real star of the show in this recipe.

I did not know I even liked pork rinds! I used the spicy ones that I got at Aldi.

Easy Peasy Recipe Card

I have a printable recipe card at the very end of this post. I like to show some of the ingredients I use in my recipes to help people navigate the grocery store, But if you just want to skip ahead to the recipe scroll on down to the end of this page.

A package of Worcestershire powder.

The Powder You Didn’t Know You Need

Worcestershire powder is a newer to me ingredient that I have been trying out in a few recipes. I am a big fan of the flavor of Worcestershire Sauce but donét always want that much liquid for every recipe I use it in.

I also have been finding out that I love using this in Bloody Marys.

Recently I found it worked super well in my recipe for Beer Cheese Dip. This is another great dip that goes really well with pretzels!

I love this powder in the recipe because it just adds some extra zing to the dip. Either version will be just fine, however.

I do encourage you to give the powder a try regardless as I know that you will love it.

I also use this powder to make the Best Caesar Salad recipe.

You can also sub some liquid Worcestershire Sauce if you do not want to buy the powder.

Shredded cheese in a bowl

Shredded Cheese If You Please

I like to hand shred my own cheese for this recipe and most others. I think the block cheese in cheddar form has a much stronger sharp taste which is needed for this recipe.

I also think that shredding it yourself adds a better texture to this dip.

Of course if you want to save yourself some time you can buy the already shredded cheese and this dip will still be just fine. If you do happen to have some extra time on your hands, try shredding it just once and you will see the difference.

Seasoning Is A Suggestion

As always, I highly suggest that you use my seasoning measurements as a suggestion. We all have different taste buds and what may taste great to me may be overwhelming for you.

I encourage everyone to taste their food as you go when it is safe to do so and add more seasoning if you like.

The combination of seasoning I use is always suggested based off my preferences, but the quantities are definitely adjustable to what YOU prefer. Don’t be afraid to taste and experiment until you get it just right for you.

A jar of Hellman's mayonnaise being held over the food processor.

The Mayonnaise Debate

Since I have been writing this recipe blog I have come to learn that mayonnaise is very specific to the regions people live in. I have grown up on Hellmann’s mayo and I love it.

I know that Hellmann’s goes by another label in some areas called Best Foods. I also know that people are loyal to Dukes Mayo as well.

You should use whatever mayo you are partial to in this recipe.

I will tell you that the Aldi brand mayo is VERY close to Hellmann’s Mayo and it often is much less expensive. I will use this Aldi brand a lot, especially in dips.

Pork Rinds For Dipping

Pork Rinds are something I have never loved until I tried them with this Pimento Cheese Dip. They added the perfect airy and light crunch.

I used the spicy ones and I loved the spice they added to the whole snack. This was literally addicting.

Personally I recommend making a double batch of the dip so you can use some for dipping and some to make an amazing Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

Pimento Cheese Dip is the PERFECT snack of football Sunday. It also makes a great grilled cheese sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 10 ounce jar of Roasted Red Peppers
  • 8 ounce package of Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup of Mayonnaise
  • 8 ounce package of sharp Cheddar Cheese, hand shredded
  • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire Powder *optional (pictured in post)
  • 2 teaspoons of Onion Powder
  • 1 tablespoon of Dried Parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Black Pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Paprika
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon of Dijon Mustard

Instructions

  1. I use a food processor for this recipe, but you can chop the peppers by hand very finely if you do not have one. If using a food processor, add the jar of peppers to the processor with the juice and chop until very finely chopped.
  2. If you are not using the food processor you can mix the rest in a stand mixer or with a hand mixer. I mix everything in the processor.
  3. Add the softened cream cheese, the mayo, and the dried spices and herbs and combine well. I add the mayo a little at a time until it is the texture I prefer. I sometimes add more after I add the shredded cheese in step 5 if I find the dip too thick.
  4. Next add the Worcestershire powder, the mustard, and combine well.
  5. Slowly add the shredded cheddar cheese and mix a little at a time until well combined.
  6. Taste and you can add more of any of the seasonings that you prefer.
  7. Place in a covered bowl in the refrigerator for 4 hours or overnight.
  8. Serve with pork rinds, crackers, chips, or veggies of your choice.
