Made For Holiday Mornings

These Make Ahead Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants are the picture perfect breakfast for busy holiday mornings. They are perfect to pop in the oven Thanksgiving morning to bake up while you are prepping your big meal.

These are also perfect to make ahead of time for Christmas morning to bake up while you savor your morning cup of coffee. Dare I say that these will also cure your New Year’s Eve fogginess if you pop them in the oven on New Years Day!

The ingredients for the baked croissant sandwiches on the kitchen counter including shredded cheese, camembert, croissants, deli ham, hollandaise mix, and two sticks of butter.

Simple Ingredients

The ingredients for this dish are simple and few. In fact, besides the pantry spices and the Knorr Hollandaise, I got everything at Aldi for about $12.00.

This is a very affordable, make ahead breakfast. Make sure to keep quite a few of these packets of Knorr Hollandaise at all times in my pantry.

I use it to make my Potato Crusted Chicken and my Eggs Benedict Hashbrown Casserole as well as my Eggs Benedict Breakfast Pastries. I actually think I use the Knorr Bearnaise for the Potato Crusted Chicken, but the Hollandaise will be just fine as well.

Hollandaise Makes It Special

I like to use the hollandaise throughout these sandwiches because it adds a creamy rich layer to this already decadent breakfast. You can add as much or as little as you like.

I like to make sure that I have some reserved to drizzle on top when I am serving these delightful croissants.

Make Ahead To Have A Relaxing Morning

A breakfast you can make ahead is always welcome on busy mornings. Make sure to wrap these tight with plastic wrap to refrigerate overnight.

When you are ready to bake these, you want to make sure to take them out and let them get to room temperature before baking so they come out properly.

Make ahead baked ham and cheese croissants are the weekend or holiday breakfast of your dreams. Layers of savory ham, creamy cheese like gruyere and brie, plus a tangy layer of hollandaise sauce. This is all baked up in buttery croissants and topped with poppy seeds and minced onions. These can be prepped the night before and baked when ready to serve. These croissants also reheat really well.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium sized butter croissants
  • 1/2 pound of sliced honey ham or ham of your choices
  • 1.5 cups of shredded gruyere or Swiss cheese
  • 1 seven ounce round of brie or camembert cheese (pictured in post)
  • 4 to 6 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 packets of Knorr brand Hollandaise Sauce (pictured in post) *plus the ingredients listed on package to make these. (butter and milk)
  • 1 teaspoon of poppy seeds
  • 2 teaspoons of dried, minced onions
  • 1 teaspoon of dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Slice the tops off the croissants and set aside. Melt the 4 to 6 tablespoons of butter and brush on the bottoms of the sliced croissants on all sides. Make sure to get the undersides of the croissants. Add the bottoms to a small baking or casserole dish.
  2. Prepare the Knorr Hollandaise sauce packets as directed on the package. Basically you whisk the packet into the milk and add the butter and let this thicken on the stove.
  3. When the Hollandaise is prepared, add a couple of tablespoons to every croissant bottom and spread it evenly.
  4. Add a sprinkle of the gruyere cheese to each croissant.
  5. Layer 1 to 2 slices of ham to each croissant bottom.
  6. Add another tablespoon of the Hollandaise sauce on top of the shredded cheese.
  7. Slice your brie or camembert cheese into thin slices and layer on top of the ham and cheese.
  8. Spread a tiny bit of the Hollandaise on the underside of the lid of the croissants.
  9. Top the sandwiches with the croissant top. Then brush the tops generously with the melted butter.
  10. At this point you can refrigerate this over night, wrapped tightly with plastic wrap. Or you can heat the oven to 375 degrees and bake with the dish covered in a single piece of foil. Bake for 25 to 35 minutes *all ovens bake differently so keep an eye the first time. **If you are baking this the next day, bring the sandwiches to room temp before baking.
  11. After the 25 to 35 minute point, uncover, brush with butter one more time, sprinkle with the poppy seeds, dried onion and dried parsley and bake for about 5 more minutes.
  12. Remove from oven and let this rest for 5 to 7 minutes before serving.
  13. You can serve this with the remaining Hollandaise sauce on top.
