Delicious Bites From Disney

A close up of honeyed rolls with cheese oozing out in between.

I had these Hot Honey and Garlic Cream Cheese Baked Hawaiian Rolls for the first time at Disneyland and immediately knew I needed to make them as soon as I got home.

These rolls are soft, cheesy, and creamy, with a hint of savory and sweet. They are very easy to assemble and they bake up beautifully.

This is a delicious appetizer or a perfect side to soup or chili.

I served these to Mister Tipsy who had also enjoyed them with me at Disneyland and he declared them BETTER than Disney!

Shhh don’t tell Mickey!

I had to agree with him. They were very soft and cheesy.

I had also made them in the morning and reheated them for him after 10:30 pm for him to try and they were still good!

There’s a full recipe card at the bottom of the post, but first I’ve got some pictures and tips to help guide you.

The Dirty Dozen

You may want to use King’s Hawaiian Rolls for these Hot Honey and Garlic Cream Cheese Baked Hawaiian Rolls. I think they bake up beautifully.

I also like how soft they are, even after being baked but you can use any dinner roll you prefer.

Just be sure that the dinner rolls come connected as twelve rolls.

I love making recipes with dinner rolls. One of my most popular recipes using dinner rolls is my Mini Big Mac recipe.

A slab of King's Hawaiian Rolls with the top half removed with a large dollop of garlic cream cheese mixture on top.

Lay It On Thick

The instructions in the recipe card will make a large amount of the cream cheese mixture. I prefer it this way because I liked it THICK on the buns.

I would feel comfortable to tell you that this would probably be enough for you to stretch between TWO packages of rolls (24 rolls total). The cheese will be thinner but it will be a great way to stretch a larger portion for a party.

The half slab of Hawaiian Rolls with the cream cheese mixture spread out over it in a baking dish.
It is thick but it is delicious.

Hot Honey and Garlic Cream Cheese Baked Hawaiian Rolls

I had these Hot Honey and Garlic Cream Cheese Baked Hawaiian Rolls for the first time at Disneyland and immediately knew I needed to make them as soon as I got home. These rolls are soft, cheesy, and creamy, with a hint of savory and sweet. They are very easy to assemble and they bake up beautifully. This is a delicious appetizer or a perfect side to soup or chili.

Ingredients

  • 1 package of Hawaiian Dinner Rolls
  • 1 eight ounce package of cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tablespoon of garlic salt *or to taste
  • 1.5 tablespoons of honey
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic salt *or to taste
  • 2 teaspoons of dried chili flake
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Remove the buns from the package and slice them so the lids are separated from the base. Place the bottoms in a 9 x 12 baking pan. I try to keep the rolls connected together and then cut them individually after baking. One or two may break off, just push them up close to the whole sheet of rolls. Heat your oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In a stand mixer, or a bowl if you're using a hand mixer, add your cream cheese, mayo, 1 T of garlic salt and whip the cream cheese and ingredients until it is light and fluffy.
  3. Whisk the egg and slowly add (fold) it into the cream cheese mixture, then mix on high until the cream cheese and egg are combined.
  4. Add your butter to a small saucepan, add the remaining garlic salt, honey and red pepper chili flake. Let the butter melt, whisk and let this sit in the pan on low heat for a few minutes.
  5. Spread the cream cheese mixture on the base of the buns that are in the baking dish. Spread to the edges. I added a thick layer of the cream cheese mixture. IF you wanted, you could probably get two out of the cream cheese mixture. Meaning you could use 24 rolls, but they would have less cream cheese. I preferred this thick layer.
  6. Top the cream cheese with the lids of the buns, then pour the butter mixture slowly over all the buns. Use a pastry brush to carefully brush the butter mixture over all the tops and sides of the buns making sure to get in the crevices.
  7. Cover with a single sheet of foil. Bake for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for 10 more minutes. Like I always say, EVERY OVEN IS DIFFERENT, the first time you make these keep an eye on them to make sure the buns aren't getting too brown or crunchy. Buns should be soft and the cream cheese mixture should be puffed up and airy when this is done (like cheesecake).
  8. Let the buns rest for a few minutes, then cut into 12 squares and serve.
