Obviously I like to make my Thanksgiving Table the centerpiece for my meal. After all, Thanksgiving is like the Super Bowl for food lovers. This year I wanted to incorporate food into the table-scape. I also wanted to try to do it all for around $20. I achieved my goal and wanted to share with you how I did it. Below are some tricks and tips so you too, can achieve this look for less. Purchase Holiday decor after the holiday at a steep discount and pack away for the following year. Shop Aldi or Jewel for flower bouquets. Both…

  • Tipsy’s Top Five Places to Eat In The Suburbs ~ Western Suburbs Edition

    November 3, 2017thetipsyhousewife

As a life long city girl, I used to think the suburban food scene was a mix of TGI Friday’s (are those still around?) mall food courts and pick up joints for over 50 divorced people.  I am humble enough to admit that I was dead wrong. A couple of weeks ago, my older Golden Retriever tore his ACL and we had to temporarily move in with my parent’s while he prepared and then recovered from surgery. Not the best situation, but I used the opportunity to explore the Food Scene of the Western Burbs.  I was pleasantly surprised at…

  • Tipsy’s Top Five Tips On Learning About Wine

    October 17, 2017thetipsyhousewife

I used to be an occasional wine drinker for no other reason than the fact that it was there. I was mostly a beer and mixed drink type of person. This was because I knew NOTHING about wine other than I thought I liked only white, cold, crisp wine. My old routine was, have a taste for wine,  go to the store, look for the Sauvignon Blanc section and (GASP)  buy the one with the best looking label that also met my varying price point requirements for that week’s budget. A terrible habit I know. Then I went to work…

  • Tipsy’s Top Five Things To Put In Your Mouth This October (I’m Talking Food People, Get Your Mind Out Of The Gutter)

    October 11, 2017thetipsyhousewife

The Salmon Toast From Maison Marcel, Lakeview, Chicago I was invited to a Tipsy Business Meeting by a fellow Instagrammer and we decided on Maison Marcel as our meeting place.  It was my first time here and I can tell you with most certainty, that it wont be my last.  My companion and I decided to order two of their Toast Dishes to share. We chose the Salmon Toast and the Whipped Ricotta with Fig Toast.  Both were divine, but the juxtaposition of flavors on the Salmon Toast got me, Hook, Line and Sinker (pun intended). The bread was brioche…

  • Fall Fun For Grown Ups, Five Ways To Embrace The Season That Don’t Include Kids!

    October 6, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Well it’s that time of year again, my favorite time of year, Fall! Sure signs of Fall are the changing leaves and the changing cocktail menus.  Goodbye Frosé, Hello Cider! In Chicago we celebrate Autumn by getting the last of our patio sits in, enjoying time outdoors, and preparing our snow day parking spot savers.  But there are more ways to celebrate and embrace the season. I have always been a lover of this time of year. October brings my birthday and my favorite of all the holidays, Halloween.  Dreaded by most couples with children, and usually LOVED by those…

    September 27, 2017thetipsyhousewife

This year I was given the privilege of a Media Pass to attend Chicago Gourmet presented by Bon Appetit.  This incredible festival has been taking place in Chicago’s iconic Millenium Park for ten years!  If you aren’t familiar, it is a food fest like no other. Famous Chef’s, upscale food samples, cocktails, and the wine, oh my gosh, the wine. Besides the food and booze, there is live entertainment, photo booths, giveaways and plenty of comfortable places to  sit, relax and enjoy the scene. Chef Demos from Celebrity Chefs like Chicago favorites, Stephanie Izard and Rick Bayless  . Who are…

    September 15, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Cranberry Apple Cider Sangria 1 C of Apple Juice or Cider (juice boxes can even be used) 1 C of Cranberry Juice 1 C Vodka 1 Bottle of Cheap Red Wine (the cheaper the better) 2 C of Frozen or Fresh Fruit (any fruit can be used, I used apples, and frozen peaches and frozen blueberries) 1 T of Cinnamon  Mix all the ingredients in a jug and enjoy! I personally like to mix this up and portion it out into 10 16oz Ball canning jars and keep in the fridge to grab and go. But either way works fine.…

  • A Waitress Named Diane ….

    September 3, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Travel Wisconsin ran a commercial a few years back about the Wisconsin Supper Club and The Old Fashioned Cocktail. In the commercial it teaches that an Old Fashioned is served in a ten ounce glass, with a maraschino cherry, and an orange slice but that a REAL Old Fashioned must be served in a room with a brick fireplace, an a deer head mounted on a wall, by a waitress named Diane.  (See the commercial here The Wisconsin Supper Club) As a lover of the Wisconsin Supper Club scene and pretty much all things Wisconsin, this commercial gives me all…
