• Grab & Go Apple Cranberry Sangria Jars

    September 15, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Easy, Breezy, Boozy They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. That’s nice, but it won’t get you buzzed. Let’s put a pin in that and move on to another fruit: Cranberries. Cranberries are neat. Did you know that farmers flood cranberry fields as part of the harvest process? You might already know that if you’d seen certain Ocean Spray commercials with the farmers standing knee deep in the water. Despite this cool fact, however, I regret to inform you that cranberries will also not get you buzzed. Why have I presented this cocktail of fruit information for…

  • “A Waitress Named Diane,” AKA, The Old Fashioned Bar Crawl

    September 3, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Travel Wisconsin ran a commercial a few years back about the Wisconsin Supper Club and The Old Fashioned Cocktail. In the commercial it teaches that an Old Fashioned is served in a ten ounce glass with a maraschino cherry and an orange slice but that a REAL Old Fashioned must be served in a room with a brick fireplace and deer head mounted on a wall by a waitress named Diane. As a lover of the Wisconsin Supper Club scene, and pretty much all things Wisconsin, this commercial gives me all the feels. From all of this, the idea of…

  • Chopped Steak With Grilled Onions

    August 25, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Someone I know always orders the chopped steak at restaurants because he is afraid it will be taken off the menu and go extinct if people don’t order it. I’m not exactly sure where the concern comes from, but clearly the dish evokes a memory he doesn’t want to lose. I think we all have certain foods that are connected to memories of a good time or a specific person and with the lapse in teaching cooking skills to recent generations, a lot of these recipes have literally and figuratively died with their keepers. Thinking on this, I decided to…

  • A Taco Tour of Rogers Park

    August 22, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Ten Foodie Spots To Visit In Rogers Park For Tacos & Tamales I moved to a neighborhood of Chicago called Rogers Park over a decade ago. Originally, I planned to stay a year or two, sell my condo, and buy a house back in my old neighborhood. After living here a couple years, however, Rogers Park began to feel like home. The charm of the old buildings, the easy access to the lakefront and beautiful pocket beaches, the friendly community and most importantly, the food, has kept me here for ten years now, going on eleven. The R.P. is an…

  • 6 Reasons Foodies Need To Visit The Northwoods

    August 17, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Good Food and Good People My parents started coming to the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan & The Northwoods of Wisconsin twenty years ago when they were dating. Specifically, they came to Watersmeet, Michigan which sits immediately over the border of Land O Lakes, Wisconsin. They would camp in the Ottawa National Forest and eventually bought land and built their dream lake house seven years ago. I came up for the first time the first summer the house was built and immediately fell in love with the area. I secretly believe I was a “Yooper” in a past life because…

A Delicious Meat Sauce Recipe and Cooking Class

    August 14, 2017thetipsyhousewife

I often hear younger people tell me they were never taught to cook. This is such a bummer to me! Cooking is such an important skill, both to feed yourself and to make connections with others. Most tell me that they find cooking overwhelming, expensive, and defeating when recipes don’t turn out the way they planned. I want to change this. That’s why I started my Tipsy Cooking Classes. Since I wanted to be able to teach total novices, I knew I’d need some delicious but simple recipes to start with, and there are few recipes more simple or delicious…

  • 5 Tasty Recipes for Spiked Fast Food Drinks

    August 11, 2017thetipsyhousewife

Everyone has their favorite drive thru drinks, but we can all agree they lack one important ingredient: Booze! I’ve taken some of my favorite drive thru drinks and turned them into tasty cocktails that I bet you’ll enjoy as well. Before we get started, let me make one thing extremely clear: Don’t Drink & Drive! I waited to add alcohol to these drinks until after I returned home and enjoyed them in the Garden of Eatin’. I’d also like to make clear that the franchises mentioned here had no part in this process and, as far as I know,…
