A Taste of The Master’s at Home

Azalea Cocktail next to a bunny centerpiece and a cocktail shaker

The Azalea Cocktail is a traditional drink served at The Master’s Tournament that is very simple and tastes slightly sweet and very smooth. All you need is vodka, lemonade, and grenadine shaken with ice and then served on the rocks with a pretty, spring-like garnish.

I have never been to The Master’s nor have I ever watched it, but I am fascinated by the food traditions. The Master’s is well known for their extremely cheap pimiento cheese sandwiches and egg salad sandwiches.

I recently learned that they also serve these Azalea Cocktails and I just HAD to make one at home. It did not disappoint.

I posted the traditional recipe below on a printable and pin-able recipe card. This traditional way is absolutely delightful.

I do have a few suggestions for mixing it up a little bit, however, with some new twists on the traditional way of making this drink that you’ll see below.

A package of dried edible flowers

April Showers Bring Dried, Edible Flowers

This drink sounded perfect for Easter Sunday. I love the garnish combination of an orange slice and a maraschino cherry, but wanted to take it to the next level.

I decided to purchase these dried, edible flowers on Amazon to use as garnish. They added a whimsical, Spring feel to the drink that I love.

The flowers I linked are in hues of pink so it was very fitting for my Easter planned theme.

Tito's vodka, a cocktail shaker, and a shot glass

Vodka Recomendations

I am by no means a vodka expert. The one vodka I like to use for cocktails is Tito’s.

I think it has a nice clean, crisp flavor to it without a strong taste of alcohol. It pairs really well with the sweet lemonade and grenadine in this drink.

I always keep a bottle of this in my freezer. I do not recommend using this nice vodka for recipes like my decadent Vodka Sauce, use the cheap stuff for that!

What Is Grenadine?

A lot of people think that grenadine is made from maraschino cherries but alas, it is not. Grenadine is actually a concentrated pomegranate juice!

It also has hints of lemon and of course sugar. I plan on trying to make my own grenadine this summer.

Stay tuned for that recipe!

Some Alternatives To This Drink

I plan on making these Azalea Cocktails again very soon. I want to add a few more ingredients to this drink to take it to the next level, although it is excellent the way it is.

My idea for the next time I make these is to try making it with Watermelon Lemonade. I also want to add a tiny drop of almond extract and a shot of an orange liquor like Triple Sec or Grand Marnier.

I will report back over on my Facebook page on these changes. That being said, this recipe is pretty perfect as written.

Egg salad

Make It A Master’s Day

If you would like to have a full on Master’s Feast, make these drinks and also make my egg salad and my pimiento cheese. You can sit around, watch golf, and enjoy the delicious food and drink.

Better yet, have a theme party and watch! It sounds like the best kick-off to spring.

Azalea Cocktail Recipe

Azalea Cocktail Recipe

The Azalea Cocktail is the signature cocktail of The Master's. Traditionally made with lemonade, vodka, and grenadine, the vodka and lemonade is shaken with ice and then layered over a splash of grenadine. Make it festive by adding an orange slice, maraschino cherry, or some dried, edible flowers.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 ounces of chilled Vodka
  • 4 ounces of Lemonade
  • 2 ounces of Grenadine
  • Ice
  • Orange Slices
  • Maraschino Cherries
  • Dried, Edible Flowers *linked in post

Instructions

  1. Fill a rocks glass with ice. Pour the grenadine over the ice in the rocks glass.
  2. In a shaker, add the vodka and the lemonade and shake well until the liquid is very chilled.
  3. Strain into the rocks glass so it is layered over the grenadine.
  4. Add an orange slice, maraschino cherry, and/or some dried edible flowers.

*Read the post before the recipe card for some variations on this cocktail as well as a link for the dried flowers.
