Sloppy Joe Sliders
The Best Version of a Cafeteria Classic

I am an admitted slider junkie. In fact, I love all “small” food. My favorite small foods are any of my favorite sandwiches made slider style and These Sloppy Joe Sliders are no exception.
They’re made with caramelized onions, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, dill pickle relish, and your favorite sloppy joe meat. All of this is baked on some Hawaiian dinner rolls brushed with butter, garlic, onions and parsley.
These sliders are To Die For.
It’s tasty meat and cheese on a GARLIC BREAD Hawaiian roll. What could be better than that?

Make It Custom
You will see in the full and printable recipe below that I add mustard to my buns. I use half spicy brown mustard and half dijon.
The tang this gives the sloppy joe is my favorite, but mustard isn’t everyone’s thing so you can leave it off if you or your family and guests aren’t feeling it. I have also used yellow mustard and honey mustard.
Feel free to eliminate or alter any of the ingredients that make up this recipe. Food should be to your liking.
The true right way is the way you and your loved ones prefer it.

Sloppy Joe Sliders

Meet your new favorite appetizer. Sloppy Joe Sliders, made with caramelized onion, dill pickle relish and sharp cheddar cheese. These sliders can be customized to your very own taste buds for optimal enjoyment.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 15 oz can of sloppy joe sauce
- 1 package of Hawaiian dinner rolls (12 rolls)
- 1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 large sweet onion, diced
- 4 tablespoons of butter, divided
- 3 tablespoons of dill or sweet pickle relish
- 3 tablespoons of mustard of your choice
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons of dried parsley
- black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of soy sauce
Instructions
- Add two tablespoons of butter to a skillet and add your diced onion. Cook low and slow so the onions caramelize. I add black pepper. My onions took about 20 mninutes, stirring occasionally. At the end I add the soy sauce and let the onions cook for about 5 more minutes. Remove the onions from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add your ground beef, cook until meat is fully cooked and no longer pink. Make sure you break up the meat into a fine crumble. I use my ground meat chopper tool. Add your can of sloppy joe sauce, bring to a simmer and cook on low for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cut your lids off your dinner rolls , cut across the center leaving the rolls and lids to the rolls attached, best you can.
- Spread the mustard on both the base and the underside of the lids of the buns. These will have a tangy mustard taste, if you would like to omit this step, you can. I use half dijon mustard and half spicy brown mustard. Spray a baking dish with non stick spray, add the base of your buns to the dish. Pre heat the oven to 350 degrees.
- When the meat has cooked and absorbed the sauce, add the ground meat to the base of the buns. Make sure you cover the whole sheet of bun bottoms with the ground meat mixture. Use all the meat.
- Top the meat with almost all of the caramelized onions, reserving about 2 tablespoons of the onions for something else. Add the pickle relish to the top of the meat making sure to get some on each "slider".
- Add the cheese to the top of the meat mixture, and place the lids to the buns on top.
- Add the remaining butter, garlic powder, and parsley to the bowl with the onions and microwave until the butter is melted. Brush this all over the bun tops, make sure to get in the crevices.
- Cover the pan with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then uncover, bake ten more minutes until they are golden brown. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing into the 12 sliders. *all ovens vary, just make sure your cheese is melted and the tops of the buns are golden brown before removing from oven.

The Onions Are Key
For this recipe I use a sweet vidalia onion. This onion, when caramelized, adds a great flavor and texture to these sliders. The sweetness of the onion goes really well with the tangy sweet spice of the sloppy joe mix.
I like to use the rest of the onions melted with butter, garlic, and parsley to brush on the bun tops before baking.
